Massachusetts latest state to legalize gambling

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is often tagged as being the liberalist of the liberal states, but anyone who has had the distinct pleasure of living within Massachusetts borders knows that there are two sides to that coin. For every liberal agenda that has taken shape in Massachusetts there are instances where the state is a couple decades behind the times; such as not allowing tattoos until the year 2000 (after a 38-year ban).

Today we see yet another area where the liberal utopia has finally caught up with states like Indiana, Florida, and Mississippi, with Governor Deval Patrick signing a bill into law that opens the door for three casinos and a single slots-only parlor to set up shop in Massachusetts, as well as creating an exploratory committee to look into online gaming –perhaps paving the way for 888 Online Bingo to be legalized.

The basics of the bill are:

·         The developers must pay an $85 million licensing fee (and be approved for said license)

·         The Developer must invest a minimum of $500 million into the property, including infrastructure

·         25% of revenue will be paid to the state (49% of the slot parlor revenue will be handed over to the state)

The current areas up for consideration include Milford, Holyoke, Boston, New Bedford, Palmer, and possibly Springfield. My money would be on Palmer (on land owned by the Mohegan Sun), Milford (a developer David Nunes has purchase a swath of land between the Mass Pike and I-495), and New Bedford (where the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe is seen as the front-runner for the casino to be located in Southeastern Massachusetts).
